Bobby Fischer - Intellectual Hoodlum (Official Mixtape)

After almost six months Bobby finally drops his second mixtape Intellectual Hoodlum.  In every sense (production, lyrics, etc.) it is a huge leap in quality level from his first tape The Best Kept Secret.  It features mostly original production with only a few industry beats.  I couldn't pick a top song so I'll rank them quick below...

Too Sick: "Up In Flames" | "The Letter" | "The Town" | "300"

So Sick: "Let Us In" | "Something Real II" | "Fuck Me Again" | "Forever" | "Things Gon' Change" | "Reach For The Stars"

Sick: "Dreams" | "Dollar and a Dream" | "Let The Dollar Circulate" | "Intellectual Hoodlum (Intro)"

If not for a few tracks, this plays like an album would.  Management did a smart move by having Jelani master the final sounds because it shows.  Every cut is polished off.

Not every leak that led up to this impressed me so I had no idea what exactly I was going to hear on this.  Bobby did a smart move by saving the deeper songs for the mixtape and not leaking them.  Sick intro with a poem describing an 'intellectual hoodlum' and I'll get to the outro below.  Some words on my top tracks (not including the leaks "300", "The Town", "We People", "Guess Who's Back", and "Dreams")...

"Up In Flames" - Possibly the best on the mixtape.  He sounds great on this and the sample works perfect.  Definitely has the intellectual lyrics mixed with hoodlum tendencies.  "I'm at the crossroads, so I walk slow, I want a job but I can't stand a boss though, now that's a paradox, I get compared a lot, I'm gettin' near the top like Lancelot in Camelot, the most noble fighter who chose to fight the holy fight, but the other thing is, he fucked the King's lonely wife..." We got crossroads, paradoxes, Lancelot, and fuckin' wives in one verse.  Intellectual.  Hoodlum.

"The Letter" (Feat. Daniel Zavaro) - Sick way to start the track almost Eminem-like.  Then it turns into a Bobby Fischer ballad where I assume he speaks some choice words to his Ex.  Pretty crazy beat.

"Let Us In" - What makes Bobby Fischer skilled is his ability to create a song like the above and then turn around to do "Let Us In".  Pure aggressive mentality here with some very confident views shared about himself and all the 'college rappers' (<<< not Bobby).  "what the fuck I gotta prove, I'm a loose cannon when it's coming to this rappin shit, I've had it with these faggot kids, Ima sink your battle ship, I hear your shit and laugh at it, what the fuck's this supposed to be, dawg you better pray to god these blogs are never postin me, cuz the dumbest fan wouldn't pick your ass over me, I'll leave you with an opening so they can see your ovary..."

"Fuck Me Again" - Ha.  Just pure comedy.

"Reach For The Stars" (Feat. Rachel Mascena) - I've heard this beat before from a few different artists.  To me this is where Bobby speaks to his following and home the best from the heart.  It's a deep track that allows the listener to connect with him.  "the rose from concrete, so God is a florist, for the chance to look back dawg I'm looking forward, see I'm the poster boy for whoever broke and poor and wantin more, see that's who I'm rhymin for, I swear to God I'll never hit a Diamond store, I'd rather buy a Liquor store and turn it to a Dollar store..."

"Things Gon' Change" (Feat. J-Raw) - Has a bit of a soul feel to it.  "started off dreamin', now I'm out to get it, everybody like 'you did it', thanks but I didn't, if you look up in my eyes you gonna see a fire in it, cuz the sky is the limit till I die and I'm in it..."

"Forever" (Feat. Kiah Victoria) - The second I saw this 13 minute outro I knew exactly what he was going for.  Think Jay-Z's outro on Black Album or Kanye's off The College Dropout.  It's only part song (maybe the first 3-4 minutes) until he goes into his shout outs to various people that helped with the project (including yours truly at the 9:45 mark).  He pulls this off impressively and sounds sick through out it.

Before this takes up the entire homepage I'll give it a quick conclusion.  It's sick.  The only thing that I can leave off it for myself are the Bristol tracks.  They really don't do anything for a listener not from the area.  Saying that, I know that Bobby Fischer will rep his town forever so I completely understand why they are on here.  All in all, this is a big step in the right direction for the young emcee.
